The Reverend Dr. James L. Green has served as pastor of Pleasant Oak Baptist Church since May 1989.
Pastor Green was born in Crewe, Virginia to the Mrs. Cora L. Jackson. He received his elementary and secondary education in the Nottoway County school system. He is a graduate of City College, New York, New York, and Bloomfield College, Bloomfield, New Jersey. He was awarded an M.Div from Virginia Union University and a Doctorate in Divinity from Eastern Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Dr. Green is a certified business curriculum teacher and currently teaches business at Nottoway High School in Crewe, Virginia. He is the former director, recruiter and instructor of the Adult Basic Education Program in Nottoway County. He is the organizer, instructor and coordinator of the Evans-Smith Leadership Training Institute - B.L.A.N.D. site, sponsored by the School of Theology, Virginia Union University and the Baptist General Convention of Virginia. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Southside Virginia Community College and currently teacher at the Bluestone Harmony, Virginia Union site of Evans-Smith.
He is married to Barbara Howard Green. Together, they are the parents of two daughters, Dr. Dara Green and Monifa Green Beverly, Ph.D.
Pastor Green holds offices and membership in a number of agencies and organizations. He is active in his community as a counselor, teacher, minister and born-again Christian. He has a strong desire to help our youth become the best that they can be. He believes that with a combination of a strong belief in our Creator and a solid education, our youth can continue to be great.
Pastor Green also believes and stresses that the most important aspect of our church goes beyond buildings; rather we should be community-minded, globally-minded and Christ-minded as we seek to do the will of the Father.
He brings the Word of God to life as he preaches and teaches during his Sunday sermons and Bible study. |
